ÃÂ?REA-S: URL: ------------------------------------------------------- PROJECT: Advertising posters: a european heritage to be discovered COUNTRY: Italy DESCRIPTION: the municipal administration of Treviso (Italy) intends to partecipate in the Culture 2007 Programme submitting, as main organiser, a multiannual project on cataloguing, preservation, valorization and dissemination of advertising poster collections. The finally selected project will be financed by the same European Commission for the 50% of its total budget. The municipal Museums of Treviso keep a state property collection consisting in around 30.000 advertising posters. It is the most important and exhaustive collection on the italian scene, comprehending works of almost all the “greatâ€Â? of poster designing, from the end of XIXth century to the first sixty years of the XXth century, such as Dudovich, Mauzan, Cappiello, Boccasile, Chéret, Mucha, Toulouse-Lautrec, Van der Velde, Kokoscha, etc. To partecipate in the european call for proposal we are looking for co-organisers interested in sharing the below listed objectives. Project aims and expected results 1) identification of standard criteria in order to draw up a european cataloguing file card concerning advertising graphic materials 2) comparison of technical experiences and working out of methodological guidelines for restoration works 3) exchange of “good practicesâ€Â?, circulation of news and scientific outcomes, also using technologically advanced instruments 4) creation of three-year workshops and of a forum in order to debate and deeply investigate the above mentioned scientific and methodological themes 5) dissemination and spreading of the achieved results by means of seminars, round-table discussions and educational activities 6) organisation of an exhibition (by each co-organiser), consisting in posters coming from the co-organisers’ collections 7) creation of a web databank containing the photographic reproductions of a part of the collected posters as well as the relating cataloguing file cards Foreseen activities and schedule The hypothetical work plan will last three years First year: problem study and proposal of standardized solutions Definition of the scientific profile of the collections owned/kept by all participants. Creation of workshops to compare the methodologies adopted by each one in order to upkeep, catalogue, preserve and restore one’s poster collection. Proposal, by each participant, of common guidelines concerning cataloguing and restoration methods, upkeeping and exhibition criteria, collection development and increase, educational activities. Creation of a computer forum to exchange information and experiences among all participants. Drawing up of a prototype of a computer cataloguing file card. Dissemination and sharing of study results - deriving from the exchange of good practices and from emerging proposals - with prospective european and international subjects interested in the matter ((Preservation institutes, Universities, Training schools, Restoration schools, Researchers, etc.) Creation, by the main organizer, of a web site containing a discussion forum and the experimental databank to be started off during the second year. Drawing up of the final computer cataloguing file card. Second year – Experimentation Continuation of dissemination and sharing of study results - deriving from the exchange of good practices and from emerging proposals - with prospective european and international subjects interested in the matter ((Preservation institutes, Universities, Training schools, Restoration schools, Researchers, etc.) Experimental creation of computer prototypes of cataloguing file cards, starting from the study carried out during the first (preliminary) stage, Input, by each partner, into the web site (purpose made and started off by the main organiser), of a sufficiently representative number of file cards relating to one’s poster collection. Processing of the results deriving from the cataloguing experimental actions and their sharing and dissemination among the partners. Third year – dissemination Continuation of dissemination and sharing of study results - deriving from the exchange of good practices and from emerging proposals - with prospective european and international subjects interested in the matter ((Preservation institutes, Universities, Training schools, Restoration schools, Researchers, etc.) To promote the circulation of the results achieved during the first and second stage, the web databank will be increased, to allow each partner to insert the most sizeable part of his collection. The web databank will be available for consultation by everybody. To involve the largest public, especially the education world, and to promote the great cultural significance, as well as the artistic, historical and economic value of this advertising graphic heritage, an exhibition of posters will be organised on a specific theme (to be defined) by each co-organiser. This will also serve as a final check of the activities carried out during the previous project stages. A closing round table discussion will also be organised in order to illustrate and disseminate the scientific and technical results reached by the different work groups. Practitoners register with the website and can organise exchanges between their peer group. Unofficial ´artist residencies´ aimed at practitioners who would not normally get such opportunities.
